When
a woman reaches puberty stage, she encounters different changes in her body.
One of them is the monthly period or also known as menstruation. A menstrual
cycle is a female reproductive cycle that causes monthly bleeding except during
pregnancy. It lasts from menarche (the first menstruation) to menopause.
The
normal menstrual cycle has an average age of
onset of 12 years but may range
from 9-17 years. The normal interval of a menstrual cycle ranges from about 23
to 35 days with the average of 28 days. The average duration of menstrual flow
is 2-7 days but 1-9 days of duration may also happen. The characteristic of a
normal menstrual cycle in terms of amount of menstrual flow s difficult to
estimate but the average is 30-80 mL per menstrual period. A pad that is
saturated in less than an hour is considered heavy bleeding. The normal color
of a menstrual flow is dark red and the odor is similar to marigolds.
Hormones
help regulate normal menstrual cycle. They are follicle
stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen and
progesterone to name a few. Luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating
hormone, which are produced by the pituitary gland, promote ovulation and
stimulate the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen and
progesterone stimulate the uterus and breasts to prepare for possible
fertilization and conception.
The
menstrual cycle is composed of three phases: follicular or proliferative phase,
ovulatory phase and luteal or secretory phase.
The
menstrual cycle begins with menstrual bleeding (menstruation), which marks the
first day of the follicular phase. Bleeding occurs after estrogen and
progesterone levels decrease at the end of the cycle. This decrease causes the
thickened lining of the uterus to break down and be shed. After menstruation,
the FSH level increases slightly, stimulating the development of several
ovarian follicles. The ovulatory phase begins with the increase in LH and FSH levels.
LH stimulates ovulation.
During
the luteal phase, LH and FSH levels decrease. The ruptured follicle closes
after releasing the egg and forms a corpus luteum, which produces progesterone.
Progesterone and estrogen cause the lining of the uterus to thicken more, to
prepare for possible fertilization. If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus
luteum degenerates and no longer produces progesterone, the estrogen level
decreases, the top layers of the lining break down and are shed, and a new
menstrual cycle begins.
I have been suffering from (HERPES) disease for the last four years and had constant pain, especially in my knees. I am deeply concerned about the still increase in population of people living with HSV, HIV, CANCERS, HEPATITIS, STROKES in our society today because of ignorance, to be Frank all this big names are grammars. I saw comments of people DR UTU helped get rid of their diseases, with the increase in population of people living with various diseases and myself as a beneficiary to DR UTU traditional cure I thought I too should reach the world via comment.
