Vaginal candidiasis is nothing but a simple fungal infection of vagina. Though I am calling this disease a simple one, sometime this can be a very annoying one. Vaginal candidiasis is caused by the overgrowth of the candida albicans in the vagina. candida albicans is a normal flora (Normal inhabitants) of human vagina.

Sigh symptoms of Vaginal candidiasis :
The most common symptoms of vaginal candidiasis are itching of the vulva.
There may be some watery or whitish discharge from the vagina. Rarely there may be pain in vulva and lower abdomen. Always wet feeling is a common problem with vaginal candidiasis. Raise in body temperature does not develop unless there is a bacterial vaginosis.

Causes of vaginal candidiasis :
As I have mentioned earlier, fungal overgrowth is the main cause of vaginal candidiasis. The growth of vaginal fungus is controlled by another friendly bacteria remaining in human vagina called lactobacillus. If the population of this bacteria is reduced then the chance of the overgrowth of the fungus can be a possibility. Sometimes lack of personal hygiene can be a cause of this vaginal candidiasis.
If any how the normal acidic environment of human vagina is lost or the ph of human vagina is increased, it can stimulate the overgrowth of candida albicans. Those women who's menstrual period lasts for long than the normal or prolong menstrual bleeding can also stimulate the development of this fungal disease of human vulva.
Treatment of vaginal candidiasis : As the cause of the disease if fungus, the usual plan of treatment is using anti fungal agents. Both topical and systemic anti fungal drugs are used for this purpose. Orally fluconazole is used, and clotrimazole can be used as a topical cream formulation. If the sevearity of the disease is more then an anti histamin can be used.
Prevention of Vaginal candidiasis : The first step to prevent vaginal candidiasis is to maintain proper personal hygiene. Treatment of any associated disease should be done so that the immunilogical status of the individual can be in a sound state.
